Maria’s father passed away when she was only 2 years old. Her mother had four children, all from different fathers. When she was 9 years old, the authorities brought Maria to Casa Angelina because she was abandoned. However, only one month later, the judge sent her back to her mother and into the same circumstance she was in before. We were not able to affect his decision.
In October 2020, Maria, on her own, showed up at the gate of Casa Angelina, asking for help. She told us that she ran away from home with a friend’s help because her mother would abuse her physically. Her mother’s boyfriend and her older brother both tried to abuse her sexually.
Our social worker immediately took her to the courts to get a court order so that Casa Angelina would be granted permission to protect her.
Her schooling only went to the sixth grade, but she is in classes again now.
We pray God’s greatest blessings over all of our children from the moment we receive them. To think that after just one month at Casa Angelina when she was 9 years old, Maria would fight her way back many years later is extraordinary. We believe that God will do something amazing with this young woman.
She is supremely grateful to be back.
