When Dulce’s mother was pregnant with her, she committed a crime and was sent to jail. Dulce was born in prison, and her mother never registered her. When her mother completed her sentence, she wanted to return to her homeland, El Salvador. When she got to the border, she wasn’t allowed to leave Guatemala because she had a child with her that had no identity. She was scheduled for a court hearing in which the judge decided to do an investigation into her case. Dulce was sent to live with a foster family for 6 months, and it was during that time that the judge found too many holes in her mother’s story. He also found that the mother was not able to care for her daughter and had no family to do so either. Shortly after, Dulce was sent to live at Casa Angelina. Her name means “candy” or “sweet”, and she is such a sweet little girl who has adapted really well to life at Casa Angelina.
