Esther was a rescue mission for Casa Angelina. Her mother has mild mental retardation and was taken advantage of by a predator who sexually abused her. When Esther was born, the hospital noticed the mother’s difficulty caring for her newborn and presented this to the court, asking for the family to come forth. The court decided to hand her over the girl to a maternal aunt, who later declined, stating that the mother was too difficult. Esther was then sent to a Guatemala city orphanage.
While all this was occurring, we had built a home for a widow named Maria Canu. Upon completion, she thanked us for all we had done for her and then shared this entire situation with her mentally impaired daughter and pleaded with us to rescue her granddaughter. We didn’t need any convincing and immediately coordinated with the courts to have Esther transferred. Cases like this can be difficult, but when we said that her grandmother would visit her, they agreed to have Esther relocated to Casa Angelina. Currently, the National Adoption Council is in the investigation process with Casa Angelina’s intent to adopt Esther as she has no suitable family to care for her. She will never know poverty, malnutrition, or any form of abuse. Ester will experience a beautiful life, one that God has called her to.
